Rugged Solid-State Digital Wind Sensor
The Model 500 Wind Sensor is a rugged and reliable, all
solid-state automatic system that has no moving parts. There are no
bearings or potentiometers to corrode or degrade, as with traditional
electromechanical anemometers. The Model 500 reports wind speed and
direction, temperature, and barometric pressure. In device mounting
locations where access to the sensor is difficult, such as on high
towers or in remote locations, the unit offers the convenience of
requiring no calibration or periodic maintenance.
Unique to the Model 500 is its patented Hot Film Technology for
measuring wind speed and direction. This technology overcomes the
problems exhibited by ultrasonic anemometers when airborne fibers, dust,
or exhaust are present. The Model 500 is very accurate, responds rapidly
to wind changes , and has zero starting threshold. This technology has
demonstrated its performance and reliability on military tanks, power
transmission towers, coastal environments, and military portable weather
stations.
The Model 500 is a compact and completely self-contained meteorological
instrument. All components are enclosed in a sealed, weather-proof
cylinder. The package contains a microprocessor for determining weather
parameters, for compensating air density effects on wind speed, and for
transmitting data. The model 500 can be configured to deliver either
digital or analog outputs, making it suitable for interface with a
variety of host systems.
